Evaluation Question 7

7:Looking Back At Your Preliminary Task - What Do You Feel You Have Learnt In The Progression From It To Full Product

We feel that we have learned a lot since our preliminary task in many different areas, we have developed as a group to improve our skills in all areas of film making and have gained confidence by doing so.

We have learned how to correctly storyboard and script a film which has a very high importance within film making as it helps you establish the structure and plot for the film. We have also improved our skills in camera work and deciding the correct angles and distances to use as you film, this has helped us spontaneously make modifications to our opening as we were filming it and therefore helped us improve our opening even more.

We have learned how to use Adobe After-Effects and a plug-in program called Mocha in which we managed to add a lot to the opening we wouldn't have been able to if we had not learned. We have learned how to use an editing technique called magic tracking which really helped us increase immersion as the titles were integrated into the film and placed on objects as opposed to being layered over the opening itself.

We have learned about the targeted audience for our genre and how to gain information as to how we can improve our opening or what appeals to certain people in which we can please a much wider target audience and still maintain the effect we wanted our opening to create.

Production Diary Weeks 19-20

We finished filming our opening and then began to work on our editing, we created animated logos using tutorials on the website: www.videocopilot.net

Production Diary Weeks 17-18

We began to film our film opening, this too a long time due to us planning so many shots and unfortunately the lighting had changed as they day continued so there was a lack of consistency. We have decided to re-shoot some of our shots to help maintain consistent lighting.

Production Diary Weeks 15-16

We drew up our storyboard and planned for where the titles will go. We have also decided that to make our film opening more immersing we would have no speech throughout the film opening, this will let the audience learn about our character through observation of his everyday life.

Production Diary Weeks 13-14

We started to compile our ideas together and assemble the film opening we had planned, we are going to follow a man's everyday trip to the shop. We will show different shots looking onto the character, showing the way the world is perceived by people and then we will use point of view shots to show the way our character perceives the world.

Production Diary Weeks 12-13

We did research into title sequences, watching them and making a timeline for the order of them. This helped us decide on what we wanted to do for our titles.

Production Diary Weeks 11-12

We crafted a questionnaire to help us further understand our target audience, we then compiled our results into graphs so we could easily see the results. We have used these results to make modifications to our plot-line for our film opening such as using a lot of suspense.
